Sabeth Holland was one of the top ten finalists out 270 artists competing for the ZVAB-Phoenix art award.

Sabeth Holland erzählt:
«2008 bekam ich die Einladung zur Teilnahme am Wettbewerb für den hochdotierten deutschen Kunstpreis, den ZVAB Phoenix. Damals kontaktierte eine Mitarbeiterin des Teams, meine Galeristin Marianne Rapp Ohmann und motivierte sie mich anzustupsen. – Und eigentlich geht der Preis an sogenannte Nachwuchs-Kunstschaffende. Doch ich gehörte zu den Künstlerinnen, die erst spät ihren Werdegang begannen, denn das erste Mal an die Öffentlichkeit trat ich erst mit 30 Jahren. Es war darum grossartig, dass mich die Jury zum Wettbewerb zuliess.

Ich bewarb mich mit Treetop und Summerblossom Lovable und Paradise Below I-III und wurde eine von 10 Finalistinnen aus fast 300 Teilnehmenden. Durch Zufall erfuhr ich, dass ich da den 2. Platz einnahm, was mich riesig freute. Dennoch wäre ich viel lieber als Siegerin hervor gegangen. – Die wenig dankbare Platzierung brachte dennoch enorm viel Gutes. Zum Einen Anerkennung, Selbstvertrauen und Zuversicht und andererseits weniger Erwartungsdruck und damit verbunden mehr Zeit. Als geschehen die Dinge nach einem Plan, brauchte ich die freie Kraft in der Folge im Besonderen für meine jüngste Tochter.

Dr. Barbara Haubold, die mir damals das Wettbewerbsergebnis telefonisch mitteilte bin ich noch heute in Dankbarkeit verbunden. – Und ganz besonders freut mich, dass ich in der Zwischenzeit mehrmals gewonnen habe. Vielleicht ist Ausdauer eine äusserst wichtige Komponente, wenn es um den Erfolg als Künstlerin geht. »

Sabeth Holland remembers:
«In 2008 I was invited to participate in the international competion for the reknown ZVAB Phoenix Art Award. I was runner-up among the 10 finalists, selected by the jury out of almost 300 contributions. – I would have loved to be the winner, but soon learnt, that not being the winner can be almost as good as winning. – I was happy and proud and full of confidence as such and made the most out of the free space that came with less pressure and expections.

In the meantime I have won several competions and lost some, too. You need a lot of persitence to become a successful artist.

I am still in contact with Dr. Barbara Haubold who talked to me on the phone at the time, wishing me all the very best for a bright future. – In retrospective she had given me the very best news possible. Soon after speaking to her, circumstances wanted all my strength and power in a different place within my family. – It was the balance between private and professional that strengthened my creative power, and what ever I do, I have my family on my mind.»
